Description

The first part I cut with my new LAOS laser was a mounting plate to fit the PCB to the side of the cabinet so the wires would reach all the connectors.

I measured the hole spacing on the PCB and was pleasantly surprised when they were spaced a round number of cm apart. The vent slots could be used to pass screws through and were reasonably well placed so I would not need to drill any holes.

I drew the part in InkScape and saved as SVG and opened it in VisiCut.

After cutting I tried to match up the holes and thought my laser was totally wonky as there was no way the holes would line up. Getting more suspicious I measured the hole positions on the PCB and found that they are not in a rectangular array but one hole is out of place. Not sure if this is to match some historical layout. If an extra hole in the rectangular layout position is inconveniently close then a slot would be suitable to allow for new boards to replace older boards.

In my enthusiasm to cut a part I had clean forgotten to check for the scaling on my laser beyond jogging to the limits and checking that the display was correct to a cm or so. Looks like it is cutting about 0.5% too large in both directions so a minor tweak of the scaling number will be needed. This was not the reason for the one hole being out of place, all other holes and angles are square and match the measurements.
