LAOS Laser

I heard from Jaap that there was a machine in Potsdam.

I am happy to see development all the way down to the hardware firmware. This is what we also feel is important.

We are also wanting to start building one, and it would be hugely helpful to know someone that has build one in the area and also to go and see theirs before we start

We also would like to put a web baed interface for the GUI, so that its platform independent for the operation. But that is later. But i wanted to suggest it and hear if anyone has thoughts on this.

Our mission is to design systems for housing, energy and food production.
The materials used are raw. Some organic.
The construction system uses robotics.
We have a prototype system, and the laser system is one of the important parts to allow rapid fabrication.

For developed works we use steel, but for developing countries we will use bamboo.
The laser system we be used for both.

We are locating to the Physics department in January 2014, and will have many resources at our disposal.
There are 3 different lasers there.

With the open source CNC machine, we pan to also try to extend the machine for:
1. laser cutting and welding
2. a separate steel beam holder that can rotate the steel pole to allow the laser to cut and weld around the circumferance of the steel beam.

We are also planning to locate it into a Fab truck, that is actually a ISO cabin on wheels that can be towed by a car as well as hipped over seas.
