XDirection flipped when using Visicut with Laos board in K40
Added by Techrat over 11 years ago
Hi All,
I have just gotten my Laos board working in my K40 laser and am experiencing an issue that seems to have come up before however the it does not seem as though the option to fix it is available in Visicut any longer. Simply put, it seems as though the X axis is flipped about the Y axis in Visicut versus the machine. To clarify X=0, Y=0 in Visicut is the upper right of the laser bed. In addition images shown on the screen in Visicut correctly engrave in mirror image on the workpiece. Although I am tempted to try to describe in greater detail, I think less is more in this case. If anyone needs further explanation to understand the issue I am having let me know and I will try to expand my description.
This seems to be the same issue as http://redmine.laoslaser.org/boards/1/topics/18 however there does not appear to be the option to set "X axis goes right to left" to no in the Laos machine configuration. I am using the VisiCut for Ubuntu/Debian/Mint Linux 1.7-1 from http://hci.rwth-aachen.de/visicut-download. I have attached my current configuration file.
I can work with this by inverting the image on the viscut screen however I will prefer to have the workflow a little cleaner if there is an easy fix. All input is appreciated.
As for the conversion, I have the machine up and running without PWM. I have not attempted to hook up PWM yet although it does seem pretty straight forward. It appears as though I will need air assist and am exploring my options for this currently. I am excited to get things working "as expected" with the x axis direction in Visicut and will post up some details on my conversion shortly.
Thanks,
Jeff

Haai Jeff,
I had the same issue last week,
and I believe it to be a visicut "thing".. I fixed it by flipping the Y axis in the profile of the cutter you select in Visicut ... profile config file is (on windows)in the Users>computername>.visicut>devicesfolder, in the xml file you will see a line <flipYaxis>false</flipYaxis> which I have toggled to solve it...
to be safe you can just copy a laos hpc file and pic in that folder and rename it, it will then appear in visicut
cheers,
Daan

Daan,
Yes your fix is the one that worked. For myself, I had to change the <flipXaxis> to true in order to correct my issue. I am now up and running with a much cleaner workflow; i.e. image in upper left on visicut engraves/cuts in upper left corner of laser cutter. I hope to document a little more clearly in the wiki shortly but thank you for your guidance.
