What design s/w under Linux?

Wondering what people are using under Linux to design things to be cut and/or etched under Linux?

inkscape? xfig?

And (paint covered) PCB etching?

All suggestions welcome - just about to start out :)

At Fablab Amersfoort I tried to collect interesting software on the following page:
http://fablabamersfoort.nl/nl/software
But mostly I would also recommend Inkscape.
