New Laos Laser up and running!

Added by sweaving almost 10 years ago

Hello all,
just thought i would introduce myself!

After having bought a Rev 5 board probably 5 months ago, i have finally got around to doing the install, my convertion was from a julong laser JL-K3020 running the usual Moshi rubbish i have heard so much about on numerous forums..lol

The install went very smoothly with the only minor issue being there was no suitable mounting bolt hole pattern on the steel back plate (even though it had 1001 holes drilled into it none lined up..lol).

The LCD display is great with the ability to jog the machine around, and Visi cut runs the machine great through Windows, i had to mod the config file for slightly different ref positions, and reverse the 'X' axis. but this was very simple to do.

To sum up i am one very happy bunny and would like to thank all who have contributed to making this Hardware/software what it is! i hope more people start to use this board when converting there Moshi engravers!

Congratulations! I am more than happy for you because I am having trouble getting my version 5 to work.
I am a retired electronic technician and thought it would be a snap to upgrade my 50 watt piece (no brand name) Chinese junk, so I am looking for a US-based mentor that has a little bit of time to help me out.

Hi Rolf,
Mine was simply plug and play! does yours have the Stepper and end stop combined ribbon cable? if so then this is simular to mine and maybe i can help you through the forum!

How far have you got with the conversion?

Steve, I don't have the ribbon cable or display. I consider my board finished.
When I send the job from Visicut I get no indication on the MBED that the job has been sent. I thought maybe one of the lights should have been blinking. However Visicut shows that everything is okay. I was wondering if I could have gone the firmware messed up somehow. I imported it as a text file and changed .txt to .bin
I have attached a screenshot.

Visicut can't know whether the sending worked. If I remember this correctly it's a limitation / bug in the ftp implementation in Java.
At Rolf, you could try to implement a simple blink routine when it received a file.

I think what you need todo is enable DHCP in the config txt file, then identify the ip that your router has assigned to it. Ping it in the command prompt just to make sure there is good communication, then in the visi cut set up mod the ip addy to match. This is how I got mine to communicate.

The DHCP should is now one (1), should I change that to zero. How to identify the IP that is assigned to it?
When I ping IP 192. 168. 123. 111 and comes back like this:

Ping.jpg (153 KB) Ping.jpg

RE: New Laos Laser up and running! - Added by sweaving almost 10 years ago

So that ip you pinged is incorrect, to find the correct one you will need to log into your router, and this wtrackow all connected devices. You do this through an internet explorer window. It's usually something like http://192.168.0.1
It should be the newist one on the list.

If the ip you pinged is the one in visi cut then this does explain the comms problem so you are on the right track!

I believe having the 1 in the config file is correct.

For some reason I was under the impression that the Laos MBED was controlled through the USB port. I did not even installed the Ethernet connector :-( Hopefully when I get one installed I should have it up and running in no time.

Well at least you have identified the problem now! and was a simple fix! you may still need to go through the above to identify the IP adress of the Loas board.

Let me know if you need any further help!
