Calibration and other issue with LaOS V5 board

Added by depronman almost 10 years ago

Hi All,
I got my K40 updates to LaOS over the weekend, all appears to be working fairly well, however I have a few issues -

calibration of the laser
If I cut a 200mm long square it comes out at 201.5mm, however if I cut a 30mm square it comes out at 29.5mm

Not sure how I can correct this, but I don't remember the Moshi board having this problem.

Y Axis jog via the joystick is the wrong way
When using the display panel the joystick moves the X axis in the correct direction, but the Y axis is reversed.
If I change the config file by making the number + (rather than -) the jog button works correctly, but visicut causes the Y axis to crash in to the machine case :(

visicut importing DXF files - the size is way out
When I import a DXF file produced with CorelDraw in to Visicut it is VERY small, if I import to Inkscape is looks OK, but when output to visicut the size is again to small, but not as small as when open with visicut directly (i.e. cutting out the inkscape step)

What about the printer drive from Windows
Is the print driver working from Windows, if so any clues on how to get it set up

Many thank for any help
Paul

Hi Paul,

calibration of the laser
You could check the x.scale and y.scale properties in the config file.

Y Axis jog via the joystick is the wrong way
It's a known issue, but nobody fixed it yet. Probably because few people use the joystick.

visicut importing DXF files - the size is way out
This would be a VisiCut issue, not a Laos issue.

I believe VisiCut can make some exceptions based on the file type and the program it's written in. I know for example that it compensates for Illustrator's lack of mm unit support.

What about the printer drive from Windows
I don't know what you mean? The trick is that you don't need a "driver" anymore, VisiCut is a sort of driver that works wireless with LAOS.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply, I have made some good progress tonight.
I had not realised that I was running an older version of Visicut (1.55), so I downloaded the very latest version and most of my problems have gone away :)

The calibration is now spot on
The DXF files created in Coreldraw 6 import into Visicut at the correct size, but come in without any line colors, so cutting and marking is not possible, however importing in to Inkscape and then using the pass path to visicut brings in the different line colors and therefore cut and mark is working :)

My question about the print driver for windows was referring to the CUPS printer driver - I thought I would be able to print directly from CorelDraw my using the print icon in Coreldraw and selecting the LaOS as the default printer, and file would then be output directly to the laser cutter, this would be really convenient. Is this not possible, or is it something on the 'to do' list

Cheers,
Paul

As an alternative to the Cups driver you could try to write a open-with-visicut plugin. You can find these under the extra menu in VisiCut for Illustrator and Inkscape. These enable you to select what you want to lasercut and then open that in VisiCut.
