Questions for Beginners
Added by asenyurt over 9 years ago
I purchased MBED LPC1768 and components (Pololulu stepper drivers, resistors, capacitors..)
I downloaded laos_iotest_board_LPC1768.bin test firmware file and saved to MBED disk. (Installed MBED Serial Driver to Win.)
Connected to MBED with terminal programme but after reseting i didnt get any text menus in terminal window. When i send some command (any keystroke) MBED main led is blinking. I didnt see anything Driver Enable pin with multimeter.
Can i use without i2c display joystick board ?
How can i send drawing from visicut to MBED ? is Ethernet protocol required ? or USB ?
Note : I didnt put on any board just plugged USB

I think Laos will only respond when you send it over ethernet.
In theory it can also retrieve Visicut's output files from an SD card, but I'm not sure how you could trigger a job without the display.
Did you try communicating with it over a serial connection?

I tried to online compile with mbed developer site and test firmware run perfect.
If you drag and drop dirct to MBED Flash it will not run i think MBED card have a serial for personal you have to compile to your card right ?

U can setup a serial connection over the usb cable, I (as somewhat of a noob) always do this with the Arduino IDE.
I'm not sure what you mean with "i think MBED card have a serial for personal " and "you have to compile to your card right".

I mean ;
i searched LOAS in mbed developer code page and imported loas_iotest_board program. it run perfect. We have to compile in online site ? or just download last .bin file and drag to MBED Flash disk from laoslaser.org ?
i downloaded test firmware and copied to MBED and its not working. i compile online mbed developer site it worked perfect.
now, i created new project on my online MBED Developer compiler, copied last source files, added libraries, it compile perfect (no error) and flashed mbed. but its not working..
what can i do ?
i dont have laos board, just mbed. to understand how it works what should i do ??
thanks

No to compile it you can follow the readme:
https://github.com/LaosLaser/Firmware/blob/master/README.md
And yes you can also download the latest .bin and copy that to the MBED. Are you sure it's not working? Where you able to get a serial connection?
I'm really not sure what you want to do with the LaOS firmware without the board...
RE: Questions for Beginners - Added by asenyurt over 9 years ago
when i am compile with online website it worked test firmware. (connected terminal 115200 baud rate, i get test messages)
but i dropped to mbed flash disk doesnt work latest bin file. because when i am trying to connect with terminal nothing to see terminal screen. in config file i set up serial debug to 1.
how can i describe i dont know but its not working because i added ethernet connection to right pins, nothing. just blinkig led in my router modem. i added led to stepper motor direction pins or driver enable pin, nothing...
i dont need a pcb board because i will build.

Do you have an SD card connected? The LaOS firmware does not boot without it.
RE: Questions for Beginners - Added by asenyurt over 9 years ago
No i dont. I will add and i will write result
RE: Questions for Beginners - Added by asenyurt over 9 years ago
Note : last night, i uploaded last bin file to mbed and connected usb. I listened serial com port with terminal but nothing to see like sd card not ready bla bla..
RE: Questions for Beginners - Added by asenyurt over 9 years ago
i added sdcard adaptor to micro sd
i tried sd card test with test firmware and perfect
you can see driver enable led
i uploaded new laoslaser-2015-03-18.bin file to mbed nothing nothing... nothing works
As i said before, test firmware i uploaded with online compiler to my mbed. i searched LOAS in Mbed developer website and i found loas test source codes and i imported to my projects screen. it works for test firmware. but in laos website i downloaded test firmware to my mbed and again not work.
what can i do someone please tell me ?

here is video (attached led to step direction pin) :

and here is my board i am making now
RE: Questions for Beginners - Added by peteruithoven over 9 years ago
Not sure why that would happen, but I do believe all those .bin's should work, they've all been used by multiple people.
If I may ask, why design your own board? Do you have special plans or improvements in mind?

nothing i am too far Netherlands and i have to do some works with my laser machine

today i got mail from moral beng
he said you have to put pullup resistors to sda scl pins and you have to trigger them to boot
he right. boot perfect last bin firmware. i put 5volt SCL pin and it boot itself not have to trigger.
