Constant resets when i2c board is attached.
Added by parag0n almost 12 years ago
I have a LAOS v0.2 board attached to my K40 Chinese laser, using this config:
http://redmine.laoslaser.org/attachments/191/config-parag0n.txt
I have a problem when I try to connect the i2c panel (v0.3) to the LAOS board and set nodisplay=0, the cutter seems to fail part way though the boot up, just after turning the steppers on it reboots, and ends up in an infinite loop.
Using the test firmware on my LAOS board, everything seems to work OK, the i2c display shows the buttons being pressed, and they are echoed out on the serial port.
Any ideas?

this is after booting with the 5-12 firmware and your config...

Can you try with this image: https://github.com/LaosLaser/Firmware/blob/master/laoslaser-8-12-2012.bin
just verified it here. What version of the i2c firmware does the display show?
Can you make a dump of all the serial output on the mbed USB connection?

I've managed to figure out a workaround, but its a super weird one.
The display comes up and works fine... as long as a USB-serial device is plugged into the mbed's USB port.
... Yeah, i have no idea either, but it appears to be working now :)

Sounds like it could be a power problem. The MBED will get a bit of extra from the USB device and all is well.
You could test the idea with a charger unit that only supplies power and see if still helps.
The Displays have been known to cause the occasional problem due to static/noise pickup so perhaps check your grounding or try shielded wire to the display.

One question, is debug enabled on the arduino sketch for the display? I had issues with the cutter not working if debug was on.
