What are LaOS connectors J27 & J14 used for (rev 5 board)

Hi all,
I'm trying to understand what the various 'unused' connector are for on the Rev 5 LaOS board.

I am basically trying to find a way to switch the Air Compressor on and off when a job is cutting and also a way to start the exhaust fan when a job is cutting and stop it about 30 seconds after the job finishes.

Doing some probing with a digital volt meter I have established that R17 goes from 0.28 volts when the laser is idle to 3.18 volts when the laser is cutting a job / the laser head is moved via the 'jog' and remains at 3.18 volts for about 30 seconds after the job as finished. So I'm hoping to be able to use the J27 connector and through Q2 (with jumper J42 set to Exh Ena) switch a 5 volt relay which in turn will switch mains power off / on for the Exhaust and Air compressor. Does this sound OK ???

I also probed R15 which read 0.28 volts when the laser was firing and 3.18 volts when the laser was not firing (J41 set to Las On). Other than switching on a 'laser warning light' I can't see an immediate us for this. Anyone got any ideas what it would be used for ???

The J14 connector is a total mystery to me, does anyone have an explanation what is is used for ???

Yes, that's completely valid. Note that you will need a small flyback diode over the pins of the relay to avoid breaking stuff. Any diode is fine (1N4148, 1N400x).

J14 pin 3 is meant for the cover sensor, but I'm not sure if it's actually used.

thanks for the reply, J27 is now controlling my Exhaust motor and my Air assist compressor, via a couple of 5volt relays and a couple of diodes and an home made pcb board to mount the components on :)

I thought I would post a rough sketch of the circuit and components I used to enable the LaOS Rev5 board to switch on and off the Exhaust fans and the Air Assist compressor.
I actually made two of the circuits in the attached jpeg on the same piece of pcb board and used the output from J27 Q2 (pin 3) and +5V from Pin 1 to drive both circuits, circuit 1 switches the mains for the Air compressor and circuit 2 switches the Exhaust motors.
I added three IEC panel sockets to the back of the laser cutter case to output the switched mains for the compressor and exhaust, the other IEC socket was to power the laser water cooling motor and is manually switched via push on push off switch mounted underneath the control panel (I don't normally want to switch this off for obvious reasons)

Which is the input for the Cover signal?
in my setup the signal is cutting directly the Laser PSU path, check the D+/- connector here [https://www.flickr.com/gp/jegb70/2hb99D]]
